myotherapy

Myotherapy evolved based on the work of an American White House Physician named Dr. Janet Travel, who discovered that when placed under increased stresses and strains, muscles develop trigger points (also commonly referred to as knots). These trigger points cause deep aching pain, local tenderness as well as referred pain to unrelated areas of the body. When present, trigger points will also limit movement, flexibility and strength thus leading to further compensatory patters in related muscles.

Myotherapists locate and treat these painful lesions using an array of treatment techniques including deep tissue massage, ischaemic compression (direct pressure applied onto the trigger point), dry needling (inserting acupuncture needles into trigger points if required), corrective/rehabilitative exercises and stretches.

Myotherapists can treat many conditions including but not limited to:

  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Muscle & Joint pain
  • Neck & Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Tennis/Golfers elbow
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • RSI
  • Frozen shoulder
